Snapmaker PLA Glow

Text

This filament contains luminous powder. Due to the increased risk of clogging, do not use hot ends smaller than 0.4 mm. As luminous powder is abrasive, use Hardened Steel Hot Ends (sold separately) and load filament manually to prevent wear on the automatic filament feeders.

Glow in the Dark

PLA Glow contains luminous powder that brings your prints to life in the dark. Simply charge under a bright lamp or in bright natural light near a window for 10 minutes[1] to activate the glow. Recharge and enjoy the glow, again and again.

Light Up Your Creativity

Create cosplay props, add glowing accents to your models, or craft desk ornaments and wall decorations. Let your creativity shine in the dark.

Colors for Creativity

Choose from a selection of vibrant colors to suit different models and creative styles. Enjoy their colors in bright settings and discover a distinctive glow in low-light conditions.

RFID Recognition[2]

When used with the Snapmaker U1, the printer automatically loads preset filament information for a more convenient printing experience.

Recycled Spool & Packaging

Both the spool and packing box are made from recycled materials, reducing the use of virgin materials.

Please Note

To activate the glow of PLA Glow filament or printed objects, place them under a bright desk lamp or in bright natural light near a window for about 10 minutes. After the light source is removed, the glow remains clearly visible for about 5 minutes before gradually fading, with a faint afterglow lasting up to around 40 minutes in total. To restore a more noticeable glow, expose the filament or printed object to light again. Avoid prolonged light exposure, as it may accelerate material aging.

Printing Tips

Drying & Storage

• Pre-Drying: The filament has moderate moisture sensitivity, so drying before use is optional. However, pre-drying is recommended for optimal print results. The recommended setting is 55°C for 8 hours.
• Storage: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will cause the material to fade and become brittle. When not in use, store the filament in a dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain consistent print quality.

Printing

• Hotend Selection: Do not use hotends with nozzle diameters smaller than 0.4 mm, as the luminous powder may cause clogging.
• Use Hardened Steel Hotends: This filament may wear down stainless steel hotends. Use hardened steel hotends instead.
• Use Manual Loading: The luminous powder makes this filament abrasive and may accelerate wear on the printer’s automatic filament feeder. To protect the feeder, do not use the automatic feeding function. Always load and unload the filament manually. (Note: RFID readers are located near the spool holders on both sides of the printer. During manual loading, RFID detection is available only when the spool is placed on a holder.)

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Compatibility

• Snapmaker U1: Optimized profiles built into Snapmaker Orca.
• Other printers: Supports most FDM 3D printers. Manual adjustment of printing settings may be required.

2. What nozzle diameter should I use with Snapmaker PLA Glow?

Use a nozzle with a diameter of 0.4 mm or larger. Do not use nozzles smaller than 0.4 mm, as the luminous powder in the filament may cause clogging.

3. Can I use a stainless steel nozzle with Snapmaker PLA Glow?

We recommend using a hardened steel nozzle. The luminous powder in PLA Glow is abrasive and may accelerate wear on stainless steel nozzles. Hardened steel nozzles offer better wear resistance when printing this material.

4. Can I use the automatic filament feeder with Snapmaker PLA Glow?

Do not use the automatic filament feeding function. Always load and unload the filament manually. The abrasive luminous powder may accelerate wear on the automatic filament feeder. Manual loading and unloading help reduce this risk.

5. What are the recommended printing settings for Snapmaker PLA Glow?

You can use the pre-configured Snapmaker PLA Glow filament profile in Snapmaker Orca for convenient setup. If you prefer to configure the settings manually, the following recommendations are based on testing with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

Parameter Recommended Setting

Nozzle Temperature

200–230°C

Bed Temperature

25–70°C

Cooling Fan

80%

Printing Speed

Up to 200 mm/s

Drying Before Printing

55°C for 8 hours

These settings are based on testing with a 0.4 mm nozzle. Actual printing conditions may vary depending on the printer, nozzle diameter, and model.

6. Build Plate Recommendation

Build Plate Compatibility

Textured PEl Plate

Compatible

Smooth PEI Plate

Compatible

Graphic Effect Plate

Compatible

Note:
1. If the printed model adheres too strongly to the build plate, allow the plate to cool before attempting removal. Follow the printer's safety instructions and the build plate manufacturer's recommendations. If a suitable release method is needed, ensure the plate is cool and follow the relevant product instructions.
2. If the first layer does not adhere properly, check the bed leveling and clean the build plate. If the issue persists, apply a suitable glue stick or liquid glue, provided it is compatible with the build plate.

7. Do I need to dry Snapmaker PLA Glow filament before printing?

We recommend drying all filaments before printing for optimal print quality. Snapmaker PLA Glow has moderate moisture sensitivity, and the recommended drying settings are 55°C for 8 hours.

8. How should I store Snapmaker PLA Glow filament?

Store the filament in a sealed, dry environment away from direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions and direct sunlight may reduce the material's color vibrancy and make it brittle, potentially affecting its appearance and performance.

9. How long does the glow-in-the-dark effect last?

After the light source is removed, the glow gradually fades and may become barely visible after approximately 10 minutes. A faint afterglow may persist for up to 40 minutes in total, depending on the light source and exposure conditions. To restore a more noticeable glow, expose the filament or printed object to light again. Avoid prolonged light exposure, as it may accelerate material aging.

10. How do I activate the glow-in-the-dark effect?

Expose the filament or printed object to a bright desk lamp or bright natural light near a window for 10 minutes to activate the glow. The intensity and duration of the glow depend on the light intensity, exposure time, and other conditions.

11. Can I recharge the glow-in-the-dark effect?

Yes. Expose the printed object to a bright desk lamp or bright natural light near a window for 10 minutes to reactivate the glow. You can repeat this process to enjoy the glow again.
However, avoid prolonged or excessive light exposure, as it may accelerate material aging.
