ABS Filament (RFID) - 1kg

Snapmaker ABS

High Impact Resistance

ABS is engineered to absorb more energy from drops, collisions, and external forces, significantly minimizing the risk of cracking or snapping under sudden stress.

Reliable Load-Bearing Performance

Engineered for reliable load-bearing performance, parts printed with this ABS filament resists embrittlement, deformation, and performance degradation under continuous loads and repeated use.

Superior Heat Resistance

ABS has a Heat Deflection Temperature of 100℃, vastly outperforming PLA and PETG. It delivers the reliable, heat-resistant performance required for challenging applications, from high-heat automotive interiors to functional components.

Versatile Colors for Functional Creations

Snapmaker ABS filament offers a curated selection of vibrant colors to suit your diverse 3D printing needs.

RFID Recognition[1]

When used with the Snapmaker U1, the printer automatically loads preset filament information so you don’t need to adjust settings manually, making printing easier than ever.

Recyclable Spool & Packaging

Both the spool and packing box are crafted from 100% recyclable materials, balancing eco-friendly values with superior print reliability.

Printing Tips

Drying & Storage

• Pre-Drying: ABS filament has low moisture sensitivity and generally does not require drying. However, pre-drying is recommended for optimal print results. The recommended setting is 70°C for 6 hours.
• Storage: When not in use, we recommend keeping the filament away from direct sunlight in a sealed container with desiccant.

Printing

• Enclosed Printing Required: This filament is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and may warp during printing. It can also produce a noticeable odor when melted, so enclosed printing is required throughout the process. For U1 printers, we recommend using the official top cover to help stabilize chamber temperature and support air filtration, addressing both issues in one setup. For better air quality, operate the printer in a well-ventilated area during printing.
• Resolving Poor Layer Adhesion: If layer bonding is insufficient, try increasing the nozzle temperature, reducing print speed, and turning off the cooling fan.
• Resolving First-Layer Warping: If first-layer warping occurs, apply glue to the build plate to improve print success. Avoid printing large models. Adding a brim can also help reduce the risk of warping.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Compability

Snapmaker U1: Optimized print profiles are built into Snapmaker Orca.
Other printers: Compatible with most FDM 3D printers. Manual parameter tuning may be required.

2. What is ABS?

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is an engineering-grade filament known for its excellent impact resistance, heat resistance, and load-bearing performance. It is ideal for functional prototypes, mechanical parts, tooling, enclosures, and automotive interior components that require durability and long-term performance.

3. What print settings are recommended?

For the best printing results, we recommend the following settings:
Nozzle Temperature: 240-280°C
Bed Temperature: 90-100°C
Print Speed: 50-200 mm/s
Cooling Fan: Off
Drying (if needed): 70°C for 6 hours
The recommended settings are based on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Printing conditions may vary with different nozzle diameters.

4. Do I need to dry ABS filament before printing?

ABS filament has low moisture sensitivity and generally does not require drying. However, pre-drying is recommended for optimal print results. The recommended setting is 70°C for 6 hours.
When not in use, store the filament in a sealed container with desiccant and keep it away from direct sunlight.

5. Is a Top Cover required for ABS?

Yes. We strongly recommend using the official Top Cover when printing ABS with the Snapmaker U1.
ABS is highly sensitive to ambient temperature fluctuations and can warp, crack, or experience poor layer adhesion if printed in an open environment. It also produces a noticeable odor during printing, so proper ventilation is recommended.
The Snapmaker U1 Top Cover helps maintain a stable chamber temperature, significantly reducing the risk of warping and improving print quality. It has a three-stage air filtration system, providing a more comfortable printing experience. For the best results with ABS, the Top Cover should be installed before printing.

6. Is a Hardened Steel Hot End required for ABS?

No. A Hardened Steel Hot End is not required for printing ABS.
ABS is a non-abrasive filament and can be printed reliably with the standard Stainless Steel Hot End on the Snapmaker U1. The standard hot end fully supports the recommended printing temperatures of 240–280°C.
A Hardened Steel Hot End is generally recommended only for abrasive filaments containing materials such as carbon fiber, glass fiber, or glow-in-the-dark additives.

7. Why is my ABS print warping?

ABS has a relatively high shrinkage rate. During printing, if different parts of the model cool at different rates, uneven shrinkage creates thermal stress. When this stress exceeds the adhesion between the print and the build plate or the material's resistance to deformation, the corners may lift or the base may warp.
To reduce the risk of warping:
• Use the Top Cover to maintain a more stable chamber temperature and minimize temperature fluctuations during printing.
• Apply glue to the build plate to improve first-layer adhesion.
• Add a brim to increase the contact area with the build plate.
• Avoid printing very large ABS models when possible, as they are more susceptible to thermal stress.
• Keep the enclosure closed throughout the entire print.

Note: A closed chamber does not completely eliminate warping. Its primary purpose is to reduce temperature fluctuations during printing, which helps minimize thermal stress and significantly lowers the risk of warping.

8. Why is the layer adhesion poor?

If layer bonding is insufficient:
• Increase the nozzle temperature.
• Reduce the printing speed.
• Turn off the cooling fan.
These adjustments help improve layer bonding.

9. What applications is ABS best suited for?

ABS is ideal for durable functional parts that require strength and heat resistance, including:
• Functional prototypes
• Mechanical components
• Tooling and fixtures
• Enclosures
• Automotive interior parts
• Structural components

10. Does ABS have good heat resistance?

Yes. ABS has a Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) of 100°C, offering better heat resistance than PLA and PETG. It is well suited for applications exposed to elevated temperatures, such as automotive interior parts and functional engineering components.

11. Can ABS be used outdoors?

ABS can be used outdoors for short-term applications. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause yellowing, embrittlement, and reduced mechanical performance.
For long-term outdoor applications, ASA is recommended.
