PLA Translucent Filament (RFID) - 1kg

Snapmaker PLA Translucent

Colorful 3D printing materials and decorative items on a table.

Frosted Translucent Finish

PLA Translucent features a refined frosted finish that gently diffuses light, creating a soft, atmospheric look. Ideal for decorative pieces, display models, and other aesthetic applications.

Adjustable Translucency

Easily adjust the wall count to achieve your desired translucency—fewer walls allow more light through, while more walls create a softer, more muted glow.

Easy Printing, Clean Results

Building on PLA’s easy-to-print nature, this filament requires less skill to print than PETG Translucent, offering less stringing, lower moisture absorption, and easier removal from the build plate—helping even beginners achieve prints with a smooth finish.

Diverse Tones, Versatile Creations

Snapmaker PLA Translucent comes in a variety of vibrant translucent colors for a wide range of creative projects.

RFID Recognition[1]

When used with the Snapmaker U1, the printer automatically loads preset filament information so you don’t need to adjust settings manually, making printing easier than ever.

Recycled Spool & Packaging

Both the spool and packing box are made from recycled materials, reducing the use of virgin materials.

Printing Tips

Drying & Storage

• Pre-Drying: PLA Translucent has low moisture sensitivity and generally does not require drying. However, pre-drying is recommended for optimal print results. The recommended setting is 50°C for 6 hours.
• Storage: When not in use, we recommend keeping the filament away from direct sunlight in a sealed container with desiccant.

Printing

• Moisture Troubleshooting: If you hear popping or crackling sounds during extrusion, accompanied by excessive bubbles on the print surface and reduced translucency, the filament is damp. Please dry it before printing.
• Achieving Maximum Translucency: If you want your prints to be highly translucent, you can apply the following settings. (Note: Achieving glass-like transparency is inherently challenging with FDM 3D printing, especially for complex geometries.)
   - Reduce all speed settings and set them to the same value. (Note: This will increase total print time.)
   - Slightly increase the nozzle temperature.
   - Lower the layer height.
   - Slightly increase the Flow Ratio.
   - Turn off all cooling fans
to prevent uneven shrinkage caused by over-cooling.
• Infill Settings:

- For shell-like models (e.g., translucent lampshades): Enable Spiral Vase mode for optimal clarity.

- For solid models with a certain thickness: Increase the infill density as needed to reduce light scattering caused by internal gaps. A 100% infill density can further reduce internal gaps but will significantly increase printing time and material consumption.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Compability

Snapmaker U1: Optimized profiles built into Snapmaker Orca.
Other printers: Compatible with most FDM 3D printers. Manual parameter tuning may be required.

2. What is PLA Translucent?

PLA Translucent is a semi-transparent PLA filament designed for light diffusion, visual effects, and aesthetic applications.
It produces a soft, diffused appearance similar to frosted glass when illuminated, making it particularly suitable for lampshades, decorative objects, display models, and other light-effect designs.

3. How is PLA Translucent different from standard PLA?

Compared with standard PLA, PLA Translucent provides a semi-transparent appearance and a soft light-diffusing effect.
It is designed primarily for visual and lighting applications rather than structural performance, while retaining PLA's easy-to-print characteristics.

4. Does PLA Translucent require an enclosure or Top Cover?

No. PLA Translucent does not require a Top Cover, enclosure, or heated chamber for printing.
It is designed to print reliably under normal room-temperature conditions and has a very low risk of warping.

5. Do I need a hardened steel hot end for PLA Translucent?

No. PLA Translucent is not an abrasive filament and does not require a hardened steel hot end.
A standard stainless steel hot end is suitable for printing PLA Translucent. No special wear-resistant nozzle is required.

6. What print settings are recommended for PLA Translucent?

For optimal printing results, we recommend the following settings:
Nozzle Temperature: 190–230°C
Bed Temperature: 35–70°C
Print Speed: <200 mm/s
Cooling Fan: On
Recommended Nozzle Diameter: 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.6 / 0.8 mm
Drying Before Printing: 50°C for 6 hours
The recommended settings are based on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Actual settings may vary depending on the printer, nozzle diameter, model geometry, and printing conditions.

7. How can I improve the light transmission of PLA Translucent?

To improve light transmission, you can try:
Reducing the print speed, for example, to around 20 mm/s
Moderately increasing the nozzle temperature
Moderately increasing the flow ratio
Turning off the cooling fan
These adjustments can improve material fusion and light transmission, but may also affect surface quality and dimensional accuracy. Adjust one parameter at a time to find the best balance for your model.

8. How should PLA Translucent be stored?

Store PLA Translucent in a sealed bag or container with desiccant and keep it away from direct sunlight.
For best printing results, keep the filament dry and minimize its exposure to ambient humidity.

9. Does PLA Translucent have good heat resistance?

PLA Translucent has relatively low heat resistance compared with engineering materials. Its glass transition temperature is around 60°C, so printed parts may soften or deform under elevated temperatures.
It is best suited to indoor decorative and lighting applications rather than high-temperature environments.

10. Can PLA Translucent be combined with standard PLA?

Yes. PLA Translucent can be used together with standard PLA in compatible multi-material printing setups.
This can be useful for combining semi-transparent visual effects with opaque structural or decorative elements.

11. What is the difference between PLA Translucent and PETG Translucent?

The two materials are optimized for different visual and performance requirements:
PLA Translucent: Softer light diffusion, frosted-glass appearance, easier to print, and more beginner-friendly.
PETG Translucent: Higher transparency and a more crystal-clear appearance, with better toughness and layer bonding.
Choose PLA Translucent when you prioritize easy printing and soft lighting effects. Choose PETG Translucent when you prioritize higher transparency, toughness, or durability.
